The project titled ‘XX’ is a personal story of my relationship with my ex-boyfriend after the break-up. Like a homonym to ex-ex, the series consists of places, memories and emotions that I  encountered after the separation. The photographs and snapshots transform as metaphors of lost love and passing of time. Here, photography is used as medium which captured moments last forever. At the same time, it is also a tool for healing, a documentation of the my thoughts and emotions. Just like what Roland Barthes mentioned in Camera Lucida, the project is an evidence of “that-has-been” and the memory of the artist, filled with both sadness and warmth of the break-up.

The photo book that consists of 4 main chapters and 72 pages. From the struggles of the separation to the final acceptance, each chapter represents different stages of my journey. The project took 4 years (2019 – 2023) to complete, uncannily, the same amount of time for me to move on from the episode.

We took a walk in the neighbourhood that you grew up. Through the back alley that you walked so many times, past the tree that you climbed and the house where you late grandma used to stay. I enjoyed the repetitive stories you were telling me even though I had heard them so many times before. Just because you said it with so much excitement, just because they were your memories. How lucky I was to know this part of your story. And how lucky we were to catch a small slice of blue sky amidst the grew winter clouds.
